Set in the near future where Mother Nature has decided to fight back against all of the human encroachment. It has your standard apocalyptic scenario, but we're right in the middle of the apocalypse actually happening, rather than the aftermath. Vines and foliage entangle cities, as large wooden mech-like creatures called Arethusa (named after one of the mythical Greek Hesperides that tended the gardens in a remote corner of the world) rampage through cities. Our main character is Souma Shin, a punk kid out of Japan. We start off with him coming to visit his twin (?) brother Ken. One day, 10-year-old Yamato and his friend Miku discover a man in a back alley who's suffering from vicious stab wounds. The man recognizes Yamato, and uses his last breath to share a secret with the children: Yamato's father was the perpetrator of a bank robbery that is known throughout the country as the most puzzling unsolved crime of the 20th century. He warns them to "never trust anyone".
Miku makes Yamato swear to keep the man's final words a secret. A few days later, Yamato's father is found dead, and the boy is taken in by Miku's family. The death is ruled as an accident, but Yamato has his doubts.
Six years later, Yamato still can't stop wondering about the incidents, and resolves to take action...

Three Years ago a Hero sealed a Hell Gate. The Seal has been weakening ever since, sporadically letting Monsters through. After a big Group of Monsters entered the Country through a Hell Gate, the profession of Heroes was needed again. Touka Scott a small Radish Farmer in the southern Town of Cheza is prepared for sudden Monster Attacks. He built himself a hidden Pittrap with Bamboo spikes, to lure unsuspecting Monsters in if they ever try to Attack the Village. The hungry Hero tries to grab a bite of Bacon after vanquishing the Monster, only to stumble into Toukas Pittrap and Die. After causing the local Heros Death, Touka is forced to take matters into his own Hands to protect the Region from attacking Monsters.
